What did the next generation of Japanese and Italian designers learn from Japan’s proud fabric producing regions?
This is a project in which young creators from Japan and abroad, who will lead the fashion and design fields in the future, will work together to create and explore new possibilities. Four young creators from Italy and four from Japan participated in this project, and each visited a fabric production area in Japan. They had the opportunity to learn about wool in Bishu (Aichi Prefecture), Japan’s largest woolen textile production area and known worldwide, and denim in Fukuyama City (Hiroshima Prefecture), which excels in cotton cultivation and indigo dyeing and other dyeing techniques.
The team observed the process from raw materials to fabric and discussed the inspiration gained from the process. Each team member created their own designs, which were then sewn and made into clothing and bags at each production site.
