The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is working to promote the fashion and apparel industry with the goal of establishing Tokyo as a global fashion hub on par with Paris, Milan, New York, and London. As part of this effort, two competitions are being held: “Next Fashion Designer of Tokyo 2026,” open to students living or studying in Tokyo, with the aim of nurturing the next generation of designers who can make their mark on the world stage; and the “Sustainable Fashion Design Award 2026,” which seeks to share new works with the world through the use of kimono fabric and other materials rooted in Japan’s traditional culture. The final judging for both competitions will take place on March 29 at Toranomon Hills Station Atrium, presented in the format of a fashion show. The show is free and open to everyone, and will also be streamed live on YouTube on the day.
