Weaving a Story of Life Cycle with Discarded Flowers

Discarded flowers were made into cherry blossoms by making them into Tosa Washi paper and displayed at the Palace Hotel Tokyo. The design of the exhibition shed light on one of the social issues, flower loss, and aimed to create a sustainable form of beauty that respects Japanese culture, harmony with nature, and the cycle of life. The concept of the exhibition was “Welcome the Future. The Palace Hotel Tokyo, which promotes sustainability based on the concept of “hospitality for the future,” will provide used flowers for this project, in collaboration with Inoue Handmade Studio, a 1,300-year-old Tosa washi papermaking company, and Artisan and Bonheur Vent, a molding company that uses Echizen washi paper. Through the new life and beauty created by the fusion of discarded flowers and traditional Japanese paper, the project aims to increase appreciation for nature and interest in traditional Japanese crafts, while at the same time communicating the appeal of traditional crafts to the world from a Japanese-affiliated luxury hotel.
