The dyeing industry has been passed down as one of Shinjuku’s local trades. Students from the International Fashion Professional University and Tokyo Mode Gakuen — both fashion schools in Shinjuku — engage with its techniques and materials, combining fabrics dyed at workshops within Shinjuku with vintage clothing to create works under the theme of “cherry blossoms.” The completed works will be presented on a runway set against the streets of Shinjuku, capturing a moment where the city and the act of crafting intersect.
